At Eldhestar we take special pleasure in showing visitors to Iceland the unique wilderness together with the horse.You'll get to know an Iceland you may not have seen before - the Iceland of 100 or 1000 years ago-endless meadows, rushing glacial streams, hidden valleys, dormant volcanoes, and high mountains. We offer itineraries that range from one or two hours to several days to suit riders of all ages and abilities. Since our founding in 1986 we have expanded our roster of tours to include most ofIceland. You are sure to find one that's right for you.

The Eldhestar farm - Vellir
All our tours begin a our farm Vellir, just a 30 minute drive from Reykjavík. Here we offer a relaxing stay in a cozy environment, both for individuals and groups. We offer sleeping-bag accommodation in our rustic garden cottages as well as more comfortable accommodations in our new eco-labelled countryside hotel, Hotel Eldhestar.

In June 2002 Eldhestar opened a new countryside eco-hotel right by the farm. Hotel Eldhestar has 10 double rooms with all facilities, including internet connection, conference facilities and dining room for 60 - 70 people. Our goal has been to create a warm and cozy atmosphere and at the same time a luxurious feeling. The farm also has a large, sheltered garden, hot tub, and rustic cottage accommodation for up to 20 people.

Eldhestar's Ideal Location
Hotel Eldhestar and the farm is open all year round. The short distance to Reykjavík and Highway no. 1 makes Vellir a good option for those visiting Iceland only for few days as well as an ideal arrangement for conferences. Nearby is the town of Hveragerði, a geothermal resort with excellent hiking paths and trekking trails as well as good fishing and a well known health spa. The passing by tourist busses make it possible for our guests to travel around most parts of South Iceland.
